Last week, Paramount released a 50th anniversary edition of My Fair Lady on Blu-ray. Adapted from the breakout stage musical, the film recounts the classic story of the uptight Professor Henry Higgins (Rex Harrison), who makes a bet that he can transform free spirited flower child Eliza Doolitle (Audrey Hepburn) into a “proper” society lady.
The winner of a whopping eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, director George Cukor’s My Fair Lady is a true cinematic delight that remains one of the most beloved movie musicals of all time, and still ranks high up on my own personal list of favourites.
Filled with great performances and unforgettable musical numbers, My Fair Lady is a luscious and elegantly crafted piece of entertainment that remains just as engaging and enjoyable over fifty years later. Packaged in a shiny silver case fastened with magnets, this beautiful new edition comes highly recommended, with dazzling picture quality that strikingly restores the 65mm cinematography in 4K, ensuring that the film has never looked better than it does now on Blu-ray.
The Blu-ray also includes the extended feature More Loverly Than Ever: The Making of My Fair Lady Then & Now, footage from the premieres, the original trailers, multiple other featurettes, and more.
My Fair Lady is 170 minutes and rated G.
