This week, Sony Pictures Classics is releasing the critically acclaimed indie dramedy The Diary of a Teenage Girl on Blu-ray.  Minnie (Bel Powley) is a 15 year old aspiring artist in 1970s San Francisco, who accelerates her coming of age when she starts an inappropriate relationship with her freewheeling mother’s (Kristen Wiig) sleazy new boyfriend, Monroe (Alexander Skarsgård).

Although the subject matter of an adult-child relationship can sometimes makes the film a bit uncomfortable to watch, The Diary of a Teenage Girl is an honest and believably written portrait of a teenager’s voracious sexual awakening, that marks a solid debut for first time filmmaker Marielle Heller, and is particularly worth seeing for Bel Powley’s impressive breakout performance.

The Blu-ray also includes a commentary track with director Marielle Heller and the cast, deleted scenes, a featurette, and a Q&A from the LA Film Festival.

The Diary of a Teenage Girl is 102 minutes and rated 18A.
