Wes Anderson’s latest film, The Phoenician Scheme, is now available on physical media, following its run in theatres earlier this summer.
Benicio Del Toro stars in Anderson’s latest as Zsa-zsa Korda, a corrupt businessman who decides to appoint his only daughter Liesl (Mia Threapleton) – a young nun – as the sole heir to his estate. They are backed up by a massive ensemble of familiar and new faces in the Anderson universe, including a delightfully scene-stealing Michael Cera.
I was a big fan of this one (you can read my full review right here), and still have it ranked among my favourite movies of the year so far. This release comes recommended for fans of the filmmaker, who don’t want to wait for the inevitable Criterion Collection edition sometime down the line.
Film Rating: ★★★½ (out of 4)

Bonus Features (4K Ultra HD):
The Blu-ray includes four short “behind the scenes” featurettes. The package ships with a slipcover.
• Behind The Phoenician Scheme (Play All – 15 minutes, 7 seconds): A short but solid and enjoyable piece. It’s divided into four sections (or “shoeboxes”), with the longest one focusing on the film’s ensemble cast. But we also get glimpses at Anderson’s attention to detail, and the expectedly immaculate production design behind a few key set-pieces.
