New releases for the week of March 27th, 2026.

Theatrical Releases:
Alpha (Limited Release): Julia Ducournau’s third film following her debut Raw and Palme d’Or winner Titane, is a metaphorical AIDS drama set in the 1980s. It follows a 13-year-old girl named Alpha (played by Mélissa Boros). Tahar Rahim is also a standout in a supporting role as her uncle. It might not have the same immediate impact as Titane, but I still found a lot to admire in Ducournau’s vision, with her delivering some haunting sequences and a devastating, visually striking finale. The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist (Limited Release): Toronto filmmaker Daniel Roher, and co-director Charlie Tyrell, explore the societal implications of artificial intelligence – both positive and negative – in this enjoyable, informative documentary. It’s most engaging as a personal portrait of Roher’s journey towards fatherhood, with his wife becoming pregnant during the production, leading him to ask what sort of world his son will be born into; a question that gets posed to the various AI experts interviewed in the film.
