Blu-ray Release: The Rescuers: 35th Anniversary Edition and Pocahontas
Along with Chimpanzee, Walt Disney Home Entertainment is also releasing the classic animated films The Rescuers and Pocahontas for the first time on Blu-ray, packaged with their respective sequels. First released in 1977, The Rescuers tells the story of two mice searching for a kidnapped girl and this 35th anniversary edition comes recommended for fans of the film. Also included is the theatrically released and worthwhile 1990 sequel The Rescuers Down Under, which sees the characters going to Australia to stop a murderous poacher.
The Blu-ray includes a deleted song, a Silly Symphonies animated short as well as a Disney True Life Adventure and a “making of” featurette on The Rescuers Down Under.
The Rescuers and The Rescuers Down Under are both 78 minutes. Both films are rated G.
Next is the 1995 film Pocahontas, which was Disney’s first animated feature to be based on a true story. Filled with memorable songs, those who grew up with the film are encouraged to add the Blu-ray to their collections. Also included is the straight to video sequel from 1998 Journey to a New World, which takes place in England.
The Blu-ray includes audio commentary, deleted scenes and a deleted song, a featurette on the music of the film and a Silly Symphonies short. Also included are invaluable storyboards from Hiawatha, a long lost animated film that was shelved at Disney and went on to inspire Pocahontas.
Pocahontas is 81 minutes and Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World is 73 minutes. Both films are rated G.
