Today, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is releasing The Secret Life of Walter Mitty on Blu-ray & DVD.  Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller) lives his life daydreaming, imagining elaborate fantasies involving his charming coworker Cheryl Melhoff (Kristen Wiig).  But when his job at Life Magazine is threatened, he goes on a real adventure to track down the photographer behind a missing picture, to be used on the cover of their final issue.

Directed by Ben Stiller, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is certainly an ambitious project, based on a short story by James Thurber that was originally adapted with Danny Kaye in 1947. This version is told through different stylistic choices, most of which are clever and effective.  With beautiful cinematography, this is an always entertaining and surprisingly touching film that ends on a poignant note, and deserves to find a bigger audience.

The Blu-ray includes deleted and extended scenes, a bunch of “behind the scenes” featurettes as well as the music video “Stay Alive” by Jose Gonzales.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is 114 minutes and rated PG.
