Blu-ray Release: McLintock!
Last week, Paramount released a new edition of the 1963 western McLintock!, fully restored on Blu-ray. With their daughter (Stefanie Powers) coming home from college, proud cattle baron George Washington McLintock (John Wayne) is reunited with his estranged wife Katherine (Maureen O’Hara) after several years, and the bickering couple picks up right where they left off.
There are some ugly cultural stereotypes and sexist attitudes, including the unfortunate spanking scenes, that do make the film feel dated. But for the most part, McLintock! remains an entertaining old school western with fine performances from John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara, reuniting eleven years after The Quiet Man. Although the film has been available in the public domain since 1994, fans will want to pick up a copy of this officially sanctioned Blu-ray.
The Blu-ray includes a commentary track, an introduction by film critic Leonard Maltin and several featurettes.
McLintock! is 127 minutes and rated PG.
