One of the highest grossing documentaries of the year so far, and a film that has found a way of connecting with audiences since it played at TIFF last year, The Biggest Little Farm is now available on DVD. The film follows a couple, director John Chester and his wife Molly, who gave up their life in the city and bought two hundred acres of farm property just outside of Los Angeles.

We watch as they work hard to revitalize the land, working in harmony with nature as best they can to create a sustainable, fully operational farm. While there are a few darker moments involving coyotes that will upset animal lovers, for the most part this is an inspiring crowdpleaser of a documentary that is worth checking out. The DVD also includes a selection of bonus material, starting with three inspiring featurettes which each tell a story from the farm that isn’t in the film. First up is Meet Chris, which introduces us to a quadriplegic man named Chris, born without arms or legs, who works on the farm and is remarkably independent, even driving the tractors with help from assistive devices; Poodle Roo, the story of a lonely rooster who becomes a guide for other injured animals; and The Guardians, which focuses on a pack of Great Pyrenees dogs that help protect the lambs and sheep from threats such as coyotes.

This is followed by Day in the Life – Outtakes, a short, roughly minute-long piece featuring vertical cell phone footage showcasing a couple of amusing moments that didn’t make it into the film. A digital copy of the film is also included in the package.

The Biggest Little Farm is an Elevation Pictures release. It’s 91 minutes and rated PG.
