The official trailer has just been released for Michael. This is director Antoine Fuqua’s glossy biopic of late pop star Michael Jackson, who is being played in the film by Jackson’s real life nephew Jaafar Jackson, who looks quite good in the role. The resemblance is uncanny.
The film has had its release date delayed due to reshoots, required for legal reasons. Which means that there is a planned second part set to be released if this one does well at the box office, which I have no doubt that it will. The film itself looks like it follows the typical music biopic formula; the trailer sells it as being “from Graham King producer of Bohemian Rhapsody,” and it will likely be at least as big a hit as that Oscar-winning Queen biopic.
The music alone will push this one very far at the box office, and it looks like the film will lean in to having a lot of high-energy performance scenes. The film opens exclusively in theatres on April 24th, including in IMAX.
