Universal Pictures has just put out the first trailer for Focker-in-Law, which was first unveiled tonight at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. This is the sequel to popular comedies Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers and Little Fockers, and it’s written and directed by John Hamburg, who co-wrote the previous three.
This fourth instalment sees the return of Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro as father-in-law and son-in-law, with the big selling point being the addition of Ariana Grande. Grande stars as the girlfriend that Stiller’s character’s son (played by Skyler Gisondo) brings home to the family. The popstar has already proven herself to have great comic timing as Glinda in Wicked and through her stints on Saturday Night Live, and it looks like she is fully holding her own alongside Stiller and De Niro, an impressive feat.
Blythe Danner, Teri Polo and Owen Wilson also return to the franchise. I liked the first two films, but remember being a bit more mixed on the third one back in 2010. Nevertheless, Focker-in-Law looks promising and like a return to form for the series. I’m looking forward to it, mainly to see Grande unleashed in this comedic role. The film opens exclusively in theatres on November 25th, the full trailer is below.
