Blu-ray Release: Planes, Trains and Automobiles

November 6, 2012

Today, Paramount Home Entertainment is finally releasing the 1987 classic Planes, Trains and Automobiles on Blu-ray.  Telling the story of uptight businessman Neal Page (Steve Martin) as he tries desperately to get home for Thanksgiving, only to end up on a life changing road trip with the genuinely well meaning Del Griffith (John Candy), the film was written and directed by the great John Hughes.

I’ve always been a fan of the late John Hughes and Planes, Trains and Automobiles is a timeless film that holds up beautifully 25 years after it was first released.  A perfect mix of humour and heartache with unforgettable characters and many memorable moments, the film remains among my personal favourites, right through to the poignant final few scenes that bring deeper meaning to the entire story.

The highly recommended Blu-ray includes the rarely seen deleted scene “Airplane Food,” a look at the story of the film as well as three featurettes about the late John Hughes and a tribute to John Candy.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles is 92 minutes and rated 14A.
