Blu-ray Release: Top Gun 3D
After a run in IMAX theatres, Paramount is releasing the 1986 classic Top Gun on Blu-ray today, presented in 3D. Directed by the late Tony Scott, the film follows Maverick (Tom Cruise) and Goose (Anthony Edwards), two young fighter pilots in training. As Maverick falls for his instructor (Kelly McGillis), things take a tragic turn before the exhilarating last act.
The biggest draw of this Blu-ray release is obviously the 3D, which adds a nice layer of depth to the already impressive sequences of flight. Filled with memorable characters and endlessly quotable dialogue, Top Gun will always be an iconic part of 1980s pop culture, and 27 years after it became the highest grossing film of 1986, it still holds up. From the performances to the legendary soundtrack, this is still an incredibly entertaining classic, and the 3D adds something new to the experience.
The Blu-ray includes an old commentary track with Tony Scott and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, as well as numerous featurettes, four music videos and interviews with Tom Cruise.
Top Gun is 110 minutes and rated PG.
