Blu-ray Release: Willow
Last week, Fox Home Entertainment released the 1988 film Willow for the first time on Blu-ray, in honour of the 25th anniversary. When the kindhearted Willow Ufgood (Warwick Davis) finds an abandoned baby girl who is destined to end the reign of the evil Queen Bavmorda (Jean Marsh), he teams up with a swordsman (Val Kilmer) to protect the child and bring her to safety.
Directed by Ron Howard and produced by George Lucas, Willow has become a bit of a cult classic over the years. Although the story is a little predictable and parts of it are admittedly dated, the film is well made and still holds up as nostalgic entertainment. With likeable characters and a good musical score by James Horner, Willow is a fun fantasy adventure for older kids and adults, especially those who grew up with it.
The Blu-ray includes deleted scenes, matte paintings and several featurettes, as well as a video diary with Warwick Davis.
Willow is 126 minutes and rated PG.
