DVD Release: Samson and Delilah
Last week, Paramount Home Entertainment released Cecil B. DeMille’s 1949 classic Samson and Delilah for the first time on DVD. Nominated for five Oscars and winning two for Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design, the film brings to life the story of Samson (Victor Mature), a strongman who is seduced and then betrayed by Delilah (Hedy Lamarr) after he rejects her love.
A lavishly produced Biblical epic in the same vein as Cecil B. DeMille’s The Ten Commandments in 1956, Samson and Delilah was incredibly popular when it was first released over sixty years ago, and the film is still worth seeing. Beautifully restored from the original Technicolor negatives, the DVD comes just in time for Easter.
The DVD includes no bonus features.
Samson and Delilah is 133 minutes and rated PG.
