DVD/Blu-ray Release: To the Wonder
Today, VVS Films is releasing To the Wonder on Blu-ray & DVD. After his masterpiece The Tree of Life, Terrence Malick weaves together a deeply spiritual look at the figurative tree of love with his latest work of art. The director bares his heart throughout the film, using a fractured narrative of images to show us how the love between Marina (Olga Kurylenko) and Neil (Ben Affleck) changes as he reconnects with a woman from his past (Rachel McAdams).
Favouring poetic narration over dialogue between the characters, To the Wonder is an emotionally engaging film that offers a deeply felt meditation on the connections between romantic and ultimately spiritual love. This is a film that feels like a memory and plays as a dream, a beautifully filmed tapestry that captures the feeling of falling in and out of love. Among my many personal favourites from last year’s TIFF, please read my deeper thoughts on To the Wonder right here.
The Blu-ray is highly recommended and includes a “making of” featurette.
To the Wonder is 112 minutes and rated 14A.
