Back on October 1st, 20th Century Fox released New Girl: The Complete Second Season on DVD.  The quirky Jess (Zooey Deschanel) has now settled into her life with three offbeat roommates, Nick (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Winston (Lamorne Morris).  But things heat up in the loft as the relationship between Nick and Jess progresses to a more intimate level, and Schmidt struggles to keep things going with Cece (Hannah Simone).

An excellent follow up to the first season, the character development of the ensemble cast is strong throughout these 25 episodes, providing a good progression of the sharply written characters.  While delivering solid laughs, the second season deftly mixes the humour with a lot of heart, notably in the very touching “Chicago” and the Thanksgiving episode “Parents,” which features the perfect guest casting of Jamie Lee Curtis and Rob Reiner.  I’ve been a fan of the show since the beginning, and New Girl: The Complete Second Season is a highly recommended companion piece to the first set.

Spread across 3 discs, the DVD set includes deleted scenes, a gag reel and the quick mashup video “Full of Schmidt.”  Also included is a commentary track on the memorable episode “Cooler” and an extended cut of the hugely popular “Virgins.”
