New releases for the week of May 5th, 2023.

Theatrical Releases:

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (Wide Release): The only really big new release this week is the final entry in writer-director James Gunn’s space adventure trilogy. I saw it earlier this week, and liked it a lot. If it’s a bit uneven in places, and not quite as strong as Vol. 2, this is the most I’ve enjoyed an MCU movie since Avengers: Endgame (save for Spider-Man: No Way Home). The film is at its best when being Rocket’s movie, with a great origin story and very satisfying emotional payoffs. This is the big, entertaining and emotional sendoff that these characters deserve, complete with an insanely good Beastie Boys needle-drop. (Full Review)
