New releases for the week of June 26th, 2026.

Theatrical Releases:
Supergirl (Wide Release): Following last year’s Superman reboot starring David Corenswet, this is the latest entry in James Gunn’s DCU. Directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Cruella), this spinoff focuses on Supergirl (Milly Alcock) and her dog Krypton, who were first introduced in Superman. I haven’t seen it just yet, but the reviews for this one are mixed at best, and the buzz has been trending pretty negative towards what’s looking like a box office bomb. (Review coming soon?)
Blood Lines (Limited Release): This sophomore feature from Métis writer, director, and actress Gail Maurice follows a young Métis woman (Dana Solomon) who develops feelings for the new girl in town (Derica Lafrance), who is searching for her birth family. I reviewed this one during TIFF last year, and the cultural specificity of Maurice’s film, which is presented partially in the Michif language, is the main selling point. But some of the story turns delve into melodrama. (TIFF 2025 Review)
Couture (Limited Release): Angelina Jolie’s very personal performance as an American filmmaker dealing with a breast cancer diagnosis while in Paris for Fashion Week is the best part of this multi-character drama from French writer-director Alice Winocour. But the rest of the characters are less fleshed out and developed, making this modelling world drama feel somewhat hollow. Opens at TIFF Lightbox in Toronto. (Full Review)
