Focus Features has just released the first trailer for Robert Eggers’ Werwulf. This is the filmmaker’s followup to Nosferatu, and he’s tackling werewolf mythology next. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Willem Dafoe and Lily-Rose Depp lead the cast. It looks pretty great.

I’ve been a fan of all of Eggers’ films, starting with The Witch a decade ago, so I’m always excited to see what he does next. This one is being sold as his “most visceral and haunting experience yet,” and the trailer showcases the incredibly dark vision. The 4:3 aspect ratio, 35mm cinematography and moody colour grade add to the aesthetic, with a series of disturbing visuals throughout.

The horror film opens exclusively in theatres on Christmas Day, and Focus is clearly hoping it can have the same success with audiences over the holidays that Nosferatu did in 2024.
