Theatrical Releases:

The Only Living Pickpocket in New York (Limited Release): John Turturro gets a wonderful starring role as an aging petty thief in this enjoyable crime drama from writer-director Noah Segan. It works as both a surprisingly poignant portrait of Turturro’s Harry as he crosses the wrong people and reconciles with reaching the end of his career as a pickpocket, and also a nice snapshot of a changing New York City. Everest: The Other Side (Limited Release): This latest documentary from Oscar-winning Free Solo filmmakers Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi follows skier and mountaineer Jim Morrison’s attempts to become the first person to ever ski down the North Face of Mount Everest. I saw this one at TIFF, and it’s expectedly thrilling but also surprisingly harrowing. Opens in regular theatres and IMAX, which is the optimal way to see this one. (TIFF 2026 Review)

Fatherland (Limited Release): Polish filmmaker Paweł Pawlikowski completes his trilogy of sorts that began with Ida and Cold War, offering another evocative portrait of post-WWII Europe. This one follows the writer Thomas Mann (Hanns Zischler) and his daughter Erika (Sandra Hüller) on a road trip across Germany in 1949. Like the two earlier films, it features striking black-and-white cinematography by Łukasz Żal. Opens at TIFF Lightbox in Toronto. (Full Review)
