Sony Pictures has just put out a new trailer for The Social Reckoning, Aaron Sorkin’s quasi-sequel to David Fincher’s modern classic The Social Network. Fincher, of course, isn’t returning this time around, with screenwriter Sorkin instead handling directing duties himself.

Jeremy Strong is also taking over from Jesse Eisenberg in the role of Mark Zuckerberg, and this trailer shows off a lot more of his uncanny portrayal of the Facebook co-founder. I’m not entirely sold on this one as a sequel to The Social Network, and Fincher’s precision filmmaking will surely be missed. But it still looks like an entertaining and very topical modern whistleblower thriller, with Sorkin’s signature crackling dialogue.

We shall see how this all turns out when the film opens exclusively in theatres on October 9th (it’s bypassing TIFF and all the fall fests). I’m also excited to see Mikey Madison in her first big role post-Oscar for Anora.
