Theatrical Releases:

The Dog Stars (Wide Release): This latest from legendary director Ridley Scott is a post-apocalyptic drama starring Jacob Elordi as a man navigating a world ravaged by a deadly pandemic. Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley and Guy Pearce round out the cast. I saw this one the other day, and thought it was fine. Sure, it’s uneven, and doesn’t fully explore all of its themes. But the film is still fairly enjoyable as a simple character drama about grief, and it features some nice aerial cinematography as Elordi’s character flies around in his Cessna, which are the best parts of the film. Coyote vs. Acme (Wide Release): This Looney Tunes movie is finally arriving in theatres after a long journey getting here that saw it be shelved by Warner Bros. as a tax write-off and finally sold to Ketchup Entertainment, who are giving it a much deserved theatrical release. The live-action and animation hybrid follows Wile E. Coyote as he sues Acme for their faulty products, with help from a personal injury lawyer (Will Forte). It’s not only worthy of being seen, but also very good, with a lot of fun moments for Looney Tunes fans. (Full Review)

Finding Emily (Limited Release): This British rom-com follows Owen (Spike Fearn), a young man in Manchester who has a lost connection with a girl named Emily and goes on a search to find her, which brings him to a psychology student named Emily (Angourie Rice) who agrees to help him. It offers a nice reminder of just how satisfying the romantic comedy tropes can be when done well, with the film adding some new layers to it with a lot of modern themes. It’s a delightful film, built around appealing performances from Fearn and Rice. (Full Review)
