Following a run in theatres at the start of the summer, Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day was released on physical media last week, including 4K Ultra HD.
Spielberg’s latest finds him going back to his roots in the sci-fi genre, crafting a UFO movie by way of whistleblower thriller. The film is carried by strong performances from Josh O’Connor as the Snowden figure trying to reveal proof of extraterrestrial life, and Emily Blunt as a weather lady who finds herself able to speak alien languages.
I was a big fan of this one, and despite some of the mixed reactions, it’s still one of my favourite movies of the year so far (you can read my full review right here). The 4K presentation does justice to Janusz Kamiński’s 35mm cinematography, and the film is topped off by another wonderful score by the legendary composer John Williams, now in his mid-nineties.

The 4K disc includes a nearly hour-long look at the making of the film. A regular Blu-ray is also included in the package, which ships with a standard slipcover.
• Encountering the Unknown: Inside Disclosure Day (54 minutes, 3 seconds): A compressive look at the production of the film, that takes us through everything from Spielberg’s early inspiration for the story, to designing the look of the aliens, recreating the “archival” footage, and pulling off the action set-pieces. Spielberg’s continued enthusiasm for the filmmaking process is palpable throughout. It’s very well put together and a highly enjoyable watch after the film.
• Spielberg & Williams: A Legendary Collaboration (4 minutes, 9 seconds): A short and sweet look at Spielberg and Williams reflecting on doing their thirtieth film together.
