On September 27th, Paramount Home Entertainment released DreamWorks Animation’s Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutants Pumpkins From Outer Space and Scared Shrekless as a DVD double pack.  Having aired on TV, these short films are both worth a look in honour of Halloween.

Inspired by the popular 2009 film, Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutants Pumpkins From Outer Spaces sees the characters save the city from a creepy pumpkin patch gone evil.  It’s silly and all in good fun, especially for kids.  Following in the succesful franchise, Scared Shrekless is an effective parody of numerous classic horror movies.  Filled with hilarious sight gags and throwbacks to everything from The Bride of Frankenstein to Psycho, this one has huge crossover appeal to adults and is the superior of these two TV specials.

Extras include a karaoke music party on Mutant Pumpkins From Outer Space, and an amusing parody of Michael Jackson’s Thriller on Scared Shrekless.

Mutants Pumpkins From Outer Space is 27 minutes.  Scared Shrekless is 25 minutes.
