DVD/Blu-ray Release: Chimpanzee

August 21, 2012

Today, Walt Disney Home Entertainment is releasing the excellent nature documentary Chimpanzee on Blu-ray & DVD.  With charming narration from Tim Allen and breathtaking images that speak for themselves, this is a touching and beautifully filmed look at the life of an adorable young chimp named Oscar.  We reviewed Chimpanzee when it opened in theatres on April 20th, all highly recommending it.  Our overall consensus was:

“A touching look at the daily life of an adorable young chimp named Oscar, Chimpanzee is another excellent and beautifully filmed documentary from Disney•Nature that inspires conservation through the power of its images.  **** (Out of 4)”

The Blu-ray includes a forty minute “making of” documentary as well as a music video by the McClain Sisters and a DVD of the film which has three featurettes on the conversation efforts put forth by Disney in conjunction with the film.

Chimpanzee is 78 minutes and rated G.

This really is an amazingly beautiful movie. The story is heartwarming, and the filming is simply extraordinary. I went to see it in theaters after a coworker at Dish mentioned that it was the most visually stunning thing they had ever seen in theaters. When I saw that it was coming out on Blu-Ray I immediately added it to my Blockbuster @Home queue, and it came in the mail last Friday. I have to say it is the most amazing picture I have ever had on my HDTV, and is worth it just for the visual experience. I love being able to rent Blu-Ray’s before I buy them, because some are gorgeous and others are just expensive DVD’s.
