Winners of the 70th Annual Golden Globes
Hosted by the entertaining duo of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the 70th annual Golden Globe Awards took place tonight at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles this evening. Honouring the best movies and TV shows of 2012, numerous celebrities were on hand to present and accept the awards, and it’s clear that the Golden Globes like to “spread the love” by awarding different films throughout the categories.
Best Picture – Drama went to the excellent Argo and Ben Affleck also picked up the Best Director trophy for the film, and the winner of Best Picture – Comedy or Musical was Les Misérables. Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained) and Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables) both triumphed in the supporting categories, with Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook), Hugh Jackman (Les Misérables), Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) and Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln) all picking up trophies for their leading work.
Quentin Tarantino picked up the Best Screenplay award for his multilayered script behind Django Unchained, Pixar pulled off a surprise win for Best Animated with Brave, and Michael Haneke took home Best Foreign Language for his deeply moving Austrian film Amour. Best Score went to Canada’s own Mychael Danna for his beautiful music behind Life of Pi, and Adele was the very deserving winner of Best Song for “Skyfall.” All in all, I had a good time watching the Golden Globes and we would like to take a moment to say congratulations to all of the winners and nominees.
I tweeted my brief thoughts on the winners throughout the show, but please come back tomorrow for my full article about everything that happened tonight, including thoughts on my favourite moments and Jodie Foster’s lovely and deeply moving acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award. We have included the complete list of nominees in all of the film categories after the break, with the winners highlighted in bold.
