Blu-ray Review: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

August 22, 2017

By John Corrado

The ragtag heroes Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) are back in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.  This time around, Peter is dealing with the return of his father Ego (Kurt Russell), and how this affects his familial relationships with the rest of the group.

With a strong focus on characters, a great soundtrack, and plenty of thrilling action, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is a sequel that lives up to its predecessor in every single way, delivering a wildly entertaining blockbuster spectacle that is also surprisingly moving where it matters most.  It’s not only one of Marvel’s finest films, but also one of the very best movies of the year so far, and a must own for fans on Blu-ray.  You can read our three views right here.

The Blu-ray also includes a commentary track with director James Gunn, several deleted scenes, a gag reel, the four solid featurettes In the Director’s Chair With James Gunn, Reunion Tour: The Music of Guardians Vol. 2, Living Planets and Talking Trees: The Visual Effects of Vol. 2 and Showtime: The Cast of Vol. 2, as well as a delightfully cheesy ’80s-inspired music video for “Guardians Inferno” featuring David Hasslehoff.  It’s a good selection of bonuses overall to back up a great film.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is a Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment release.  It’s 136 minutes and rated PG.
