New This Week (10/14/2022): TÁR, Halloween Ends, We’re All in This Together, & More!

October 14, 2022

By John Corrado

New releases for the week of October 14th, 2022.

Theatrical Releases:

TÁR (Limited Release): Todd Field’s triumphant return to filmmaking sixteen years after Little Children is undoubtedly one of the best movies of the year. It’s a brilliantly made slow-burn character study taking on cancel culture, and the increasing inability that many have in separating art from artist, built around a mesmerizing performance by Cate Blanchett. In Toronto theatres this week, Montreal and Vancouver on the 21st. (Full Review)

We’re All in This Together (Limited Release): Katie Boland directs, writes, produces and stars in her debut feature about how the relationship between sisters changes after their mother goes viral for going over Niagara Falls in a barrel. It’s a pretty good Canadian dysfunctional family dramedy, with an impressive dual performance by Boland playing twins. (Full Review)

Halloween Ends (Wide Release): I haven’t seen David Gordon Green’s Halloween Ends – the biggest of this week’s new releases – just yet, but am hoping to check it out soon. I enjoyed Green’s 2018 Halloween, but last year’s sequel Halloween Kills was a case of diminishing returns, so I’m curious to see if this one closes the trilogy with a whimper or a bang. (Review coming soon!)

More Releases: All Quiet on the Western Front (TIFF Bell Lightbox), Falcon Lake (TIFF Bell Lightbox), Stars at Noon (Limited), Scrap (Limited), The Good Nurse (October 19th).

Streaming Releases:

Rosaline (Disney+): Karen Maine (Yes, God, Yes) directs this retelling of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet from the perspective of Juliet’s cousin, played by Kaitlyn Dever. I didn’t get a chance to watch it for review, but it’s getting some positive reactions and I like Dever, so I’m curious to check it out.

More Releases: The Curse of Bridge Hollow (Netflix), Accident Man: Hitman’s Holiday (VOD)
