New This Week (10/21/2022): And Still I Sing, Black Adam, Raymond & Ray, & More!
By John Corrado
New releases for the week of October 21st, 2022.
And Still I Sing (Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema): This documentary follows three female singers in Afghanistan, including controversial pop star and activist Aryana Sayeed, in the lead up to the Taliban regaining power for the first time in two decades. It’s a good film showing how women’s rights are under attack in the country. (Full Review)
Black Adam (Wide Release): This latest film in the DCEU is the biggest of this week’s new releases, starring Dwayne Johnson as the titular anti-hero. Reviews are mixed, but I’ll be seeing it at some point so will report back with my own thoughts. (Review coming soon!)
More Releases: Ticket to Paradise (Wide), My Policeman (TIFF Bell Lightbox), Till (Limited), Drop the Needle (Limited)
Streaming Releases:
Raymond & Ray (Apple TV+): Ewan McGregor and Ethan Hawke star as half-brothers who reunite following the death of their father in this dramedy that premiered at TIFF. I missed it at the festival, so will be checking it out on streaming in the next little bit.
More Releases: Descendant (Netflix), The School for Good and Evil (Netflix), The Stranger (Netflix)
Edit: This post originally included The Banshees of Inisherin, but it came to my attention that it is only opening in Toronto theatres next week, so has been updated to reflect that.
