New This Week (02/10/2023): One Fine Morning, Titanic: 25th Anniversary, Your Place or Mine, & More!
By John Corrado
New releases for the week of February 10th, 2023.
Theatrical Releases:
Titanic: 25th Anniversary (Wide Release): James Cameron’s record-breaking, Oscar-winning 1997 classic Titanic is back in theatres this week in honour of its just passed 25th anniversary. Starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in iconic roles, it’s a movie that has held up remarkably well over the years, offering a mix of classic epic and swooning romance. I remember seeing it in theatres in 3D for the 15th anniversary re-release (hard to believe that was over a decade ago now!), and I’m sure it has only aged like fine wine since. (Review of 2012 Re-Release)
One Fine Morning (TIFF Bell Lightbox): French writer-director Mia Hansen-Løve’s latest follows Sandra (Léa Seydoux), a translator in Paris who is trying to balance her work with finding a nursing home for her ailing father (Pascal Greggory), caring for her young daughter (Camille Leban Martins), and a passionate affair with an old friend (Melvil Poupaud). While it doesn’t quite reach the heights of Hansen-Løve’s Bergman Island, this is another resonant and engaging romantic drama from her that features an excellent performance by Seydoux. (TIFF 2022 Review)
More Releases: Magic Mike’s Last Dance (Wide), The Blue Caftan (TIFF Bell Lightbox), To Kill a Tiger (Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema), The Outwaters (Limited)
Streaming Releases:
Your Place or Mine (Netflix): Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher team up in this new romantic comedy, playing best friends who decide to swap living arrangements for a week. It looks cute enough as a Netflix rom-com for Valentine’s weekend, so I’ll be checking it out. (Review coming soon!)
More Releases: At Midnight (Paramount+), Somebody I Used to Know (Prime Video), Sweetheart (Digital/VOD)
