New This Week (05/29/2026): Pressure, Tuner, Backrooms, & More!

By John Corrado

New releases for the week of May 29th, 2026.

Dustin Hoffman and Leo Woodall in Tuner

Theatrical Releases:

Pressure (Wide Release): This World War II thriller finds a fresh angle to exploring D-Day, by focusing on the weather reports needed to carry out the attack in the tense 72 hours leading up to it. It’s carried by an excellent ensemble cast, with British actor Andrew Scott delivering a compelling performance as the meteorologist assigned the task of giving an official report to General Eisenhower (Brendan Fraser). I saw this one last week, and thought it was fantastic; it’s just a really solid and engaging old school WWII movie. (Full Review)

Tuner (Limited Release): Leo Woodall stars as a piano tuner with a hearing condition who becomes a safecracker in this narrative debut from Canadian documentary filmmaker Daniel Roher. I saw this one at TIFF last year, and found it to be incredibly entertaining and engaging. Roher does a great job balancing genres, from character drama to romantic comedy and crime thriller, all ticking along with quick editing and a jazzy soundtrack. In addition to strong work from rising star Woodall, we also get nice supporting turns from Dustin Hoffman as his boss, and Havana Rose Liu as the love interest. (TIFF 2025 Review)

Backrooms (Wide Releases): This new horror movie from A24 is the product of 20-year-old filmmaker Kane Parsons, expanding his series of creepy internet shorts to the screen. Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve star, and it’s poised to light up the box office with Gen Z moviegoers. I’m curious to check this one out soon, so will report back. (Review coming soon!)

More Releases: The Breadwinner (Wide), Best Boy (Limited)

Spider-Noir (Prime Video), The Four Seasons: Season 2 (Netflix), Star City (Apple TV+), Propeller One-Way Night Coach (Apple TV+)
