New releases for the week of July 10th, 2026.

Theatrical Releases:

Moana (Wide Release): Disney’s latest live-action remake is a redo of 2016’s Moana. This version takes an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach of basically being a beat-by-beat copy of the animated film, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson even reprising his role as Maui. It feels pretty needless, especially since the original came out barely a decade ago, but also harmless and inoffensive. As I wrote in my review, it plays like a blander version of the animated film, but is not without some enjoyable parts. (Full Review)

Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass (Limited Release): Zoey Deutch, beloved for her Netflix rom-coms, now stars in this gonzo comedy from David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer). Deutch is the titular Gail, who is on a mission to sleep with her celebrity crush Jon Hamm, and settle the score after her fiancé hooks up with his celebrity crush. It’s all very absurd and goofy but also oddly endearing, anchored by Deutch’s delightful leading work. (Full Review)
