Screen World 62 Book Review by Erin V.
With snow here in Toronto today and tomorrow being December 1st, it means that the Christmas season is practically upon us. That being said, if you haven’t already, it’s also time to be thinking about what gifts to pick up for family and friends. The first of our official ‘gift idea’ posts for this year is the book Screen World 62 – the perfect gift for the film-buff in your life.
Filled with listings, images, and brief synopses of thousands of last year’s (2010) releases, this book is a comprehensive guide of films, as well as a fun one to use to look back over which films you saw, or meant to see. The films listed are grouped into four categories – Domestic A & B, and Foreign A & B, with the ‘A’ groups getting more space and including the bigger films of the year. Also included here are special sections for promising new actors, the Academy Awards winners & nominees, as well as a listing of the top box office stars and films of the year, and a section with obituaries.
A yearly almanac of the films of the past year, the Screen World series provides great coffee table books that are perfect to flip through and use to revisit the past year’s films. Since all of the films are available on DVD by now, you might also discover a new favourite among the listings. Well put together, this one definitely makes a great gift.
