Back on April 2nd, 20th Century Fox released the popular History Channel miniseries The Bible on Blu-ray & DVD.  Narrated by Keith David, the ten episodes serve to dramatize some of the most influential Biblical passages from Genesis to Revelation, including the story of Moses (William Houston) and the birth and passion of Jesus Christ (Diogo Morgado).

When the first episode aired on March 3rd, the show picked up a record 13.1 million viewers and has gone on to become the most successful miniseries of all time on Blu-ray.  Although some of the episodes feel rushed in the way that they combine the stories and a few needless dramatic licenses have been taken, the miniseries does offer a respectable overview of the many events covered in the Bible.  With decent production values including a large cast, The Bible does its best to remain true to the spirit of the book, and offers a fairly entertaining introduction to the historical text.

The four disc Blu-ray set includes numerous featurettes on the production and an extensive documentary about the creation of the miniseries, as well as a music video for “Mary, Did You Know?” with Kenny Rogers and Wynonna.

The Bible is approximately 474 minutes and rated 14A.
