After doing well in theatres earlier this year, 20th Century Fox released the Bible epic Son of God on Blu-ray & DVD last week.  Narrated by John the Apostle (Sebastian Knapp), the film tells the story of Jesus (Diogo Morgado), from his early life and most famous teachings to his crucifixion and miraculous resurrection.

Edited together from last year’s massively popular History Channel miniseries The Bible, with sweeping new music from Hans Zimmer, the film can feel episodic and runs a little long at 138 minutes.  But the crucifixion scenes are powerful, and there are some inspiring moments along the way, and Son of God provides a good overview of the life of Jesus Christ that should play well with church groups.

The Blu-ray also includes a look at editing the series into a standalone film and the production of the Passion sequence, a collection of interviews and clips in Spanish, as well as a brief discussion with producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett on how to introduce faith to kids.

Son of God is 138 minutes and rated 14A.
