Trailer for Disney’s Live-Action Lilo & Stitch

By John Corrado

Disney has just released the full trailer for the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch. This is our first full look at the film, which is coming to theatres on May 23rd.

The original 2002 animated film is a fan favourite, and already pretty perfect as it is, so this remake has a lot riding on it. All things considered, the updated character design of alien Stitch is pretty cute, and original co-director Chris Sanders returns to “voice” him. But, like a lot of these live-action remakes, it also looks like a beat-for-beat copy of the original, right down to the music. In that way, this reminds me of what we’ve seen so far from DreamWorks’ upcoming redo of How to Train Your Dragon, which was incidentally from the same directors as the original Lilo & Stitch.

Still, I’ll be seeing this regardless. The one bright spot is that it’s directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, who made the wonderful Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. The popularity of Stitch as a character also means this thing will likely make boatloads of money, both at the box office and in terms of merchandise. The full trailer is below, please feel free to comment your thoughts after watching it.
