Today, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing a commemorative 25th Anniversary Edition of Rob Reiner’s seminal classic, Stand By Me, on Blu-ray. Originally released in 1986, the film tells the story of four boys (expertly played by Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman and Jerry O’Connell) who bond as friends and ‘come of age’ over the course of a backwoods journey in 1959 to find the body of a missing teenager.
In adapting a semi-autobiographical story by Stephen King, Reiner filled every scene of Stand By Me with the feelings we all experienced when we were on the cusp of maturity, but still stuck in childhood, with every conversation and song choice ringing true to the children that we once were. After 25 years, it’s still a powerful and deeply moving film, that remains one of the best ever made about childhood and friendship.
The Blu-ray includes picture-in-picture video commentary with Reiner and actors Wil Wheaton & Corey Feldman, audio commentary with Reiner, a featurette and a music video.
Stand By Me is 88 minutes and rated PG.

One of my all time favourite movies. I think that I will have to pick up the blue ray. Thanks for the info.

I agree – this is a great movie that will be remembered for a very long time. The 1980′s in general were a great decade for movies about adolescence, and Stand By Me remains an excellent example of a film that has only grown more resonant over the years. The Blu-ray comes highly recommended.
