One of the most critically acclaimed horror films in recent memory, The Witch takes place in 1630, when a deeply religious family relocates to a rural farm property in New England.  But when crops start to fail, and their newborn child mysteriously disappears, the father (Ralph Ineson) comes to believe they have been cursed by malevolent forces, placing blame upon his daughter (Anya-Taylor Joy).

With a commanding breakout turn from Anya-Taylor Joy, The Witch is a slow burn horror film that excels at building a haunting sense of atmosphere and tension, with darkly beautiful cinematography captured in the all encompassing woods of a Northern Ontario ghost town.  Watch this one at night with the lights out for full effect.  My full review of the film can be found right here.

The Blu-ray also includes commentary with director Robert Eggers, a featurette, a Salem Q&A with the cast and crew, as well as a design gallery.  I was happily sent the steelbook edition for review, which in my opinion is the best version to get for those of us who like to collect such things.

The Witch is an Elevation Pictures release.  It’s 93 minutes and rated 14A.
