Official Trailer for Siân Heder’s Being Heumann

By John Corrado

Apple Original Films has just put out the official trailer for Being Heumann, director Siân Heder’s follow-up to her surprise Best Picture winner CODA. I saw this one when it premiered as the opening night film at TIFF last month (you can read my full review right here), and enjoyed it quite a bit. Audiences did too, seeing as it was the second runner-up for the TIFF People’s Choice Award.

This trailer gives you good sense of the film’s tone; this is a crowdpleaser through and through, but one documenting an important chapter in history. It’s carried by a strong performance from Ruth Madeley, who stars as disability rights activist Judy Heumann, and she is backed up by an ensemble cast of actors with disabilities. The authentic casting is one of the best parts of Heder’s film.

It opens in theatres on November 6th, before streaming on Apple TV a week later on November 13th. It’s worth seeing either way.
